1. What is the idea?

The idea is simple: GlobalQuestGame.com was created to raise enough money to self-produce two board games I invented by selling ad space on my homepage. This site was also created to help me keep a promise I made to an abandoned child I befriended while teaching English in China (please see my first blog entry for the whole story).

I am a huge fan of how board games bring family and friends together to have a great time. Not only does playing board games open up communication and enhance your attention span and reasoning skills, but they have been linked to a variety of health benefits as well. Believe it or not, this includes reducing stress and helping to prevent Alzheimer's disease by providing constant mental stimulation.

As a result, I turn to YOU: parents, teachers, fellow artists, entrepreneurs, business owners, college and high school students, gamers of all kinds, the aspiring, the kind-hearted, the curious, and the eccentric!

I invite everyone to buy my pixels at $1 per pixel. These are available in 100-pixel blocks (each measuring 10 x 10 pixels). The reason for selling them in 100-pixel blocks is because anything smaller would be too small for anyone to notice your personal space.

You are welcome to buy as many pixels as you like for as long as they are available (see the LIVE status in the upper right corner of the homepage). When you buy your pixels, you can display an image, logo, or ad of your choice in the space you purchased. What is great about this is that you can also have the image linked to your own website! This is intended to be a family-friendly website, therefore NO obscene or offensive images will be allowed.

2. Who are you??

My name is Luis Aponte and I live in a small town called Greenacres, Florida, which has a total area of only 4.7 square miles and no famous landmarks or celebrities...yet. In addition to brainstorming various creative inventions in my "spare time", I have been developing my screen writing skills for feature-length and short films.

I have received the "Editor's Choice Award" and have been published by www.Poetry.com three times. However, I'm convinced it's just a clever marketing strategy to get me to buy their book each year, but I have fallen for it each time - so what does that make me?? LOL! (Feel free to look me up under "Luis D. Aponte" on their website. I wrote, "Take A Picture", "The Meaning of Life", "Delicate Woman", and "A Lover's Remorse in Manhattan". You can even click to rate them on the bottom of each poem if you like. I would be curious to know and greatly appreciate your feedback!).

A few years ago (in late 2006), I worked two jobs, seven days per week, for seven months straight. I was also training with an elite coach (who was also a former Olympian), pursuing a crazy goal to one day be skilled enough to compete in the Olympics; as a vegan athlete, with no performance-enhancing drugs. Perhaps I was over-reaching, but only a little. ;) One day after weight training, I was rushing to make it to work on time in my trusty, old, rusted Buick. It had just finished raining and the roads were slick from the multiple layers of oil in the asphalt. A SUV was traveling in the opposite direction, trying to make a left turn without yielding, which caused us to have a head-on collision at about 40 miles per hour. I was stupid for rushing and for not wearing my seat belt. Instantly, my throat hit the steering wheel and my forehead hit the windshield with incredible force. The car was totaled and engine had started to smoke. My vision was blurry, and someone had rushed to pull me out of my smoking car before it could ignite. I couldn't find my cell phone fast enough and the only thing I could think of grabbing was my sprinting shoes on the floor because they were so expensive, lol! The last thing I ever expected that day was to be lying in the middle of the road, half-conscious, with shards of glass and blood all over my head. After my intense concern for the welfare of the other driver, all I could think about was how I would never see the ones I love the most smile at me again. Make a long story short, you'd be surprised how much soul-searching you can do in a moment like that.

I enjoy and would like to be remembered for creating various works of art in any form that inspires me (i.e. games, films, and books) and I would like for millions of people to be able to enjoy and to be positively impacted from my small and humble contributions well beyond my short time in this life. I feel this form of artistic expression is a natural gift I have been given and I would like to share it with you.

3. Why should I buy your pixels?

What's in it for you? When you buy pixels here you are investing in a website that will get a tremendous amount of traffic once the home page is completely reserved. This gets your ad exposure and clicked and visitors to your website. What is unique about THIS site is;

A. Your image/logo/ad will remain featured on my site for the next FOUR YEARS as a tribute to you for contributing to these games and as my way to express my gratitude to YOU;

B. Every sponsor featured on my homepage will receive a signed copy of "Global Quest" and "Treasure Hold 'Em" before they are released to anyone else on the market;

C. You can feel great about your purchase because 11% of every dollar raised on this site will go to "Friends of Abused Children", a not-for-profit corporation based in West Palm Beach, FL;

D. If you are a business owner or are simply trying to promote yourself and/or service, this will be an exceptional and among the most cost-effective ways to get more exposure and traffic to your site!

4. Why are you selling by the block?

A pixel is far too small to consider trying to sell, you would never see the image and the link will never get clicked on.; A block is realistically the smallest size you could use.

5. Is this for real?

100% real as this vegan chocolate cake a friend made for me on my birthday. (Yes, it tastes as amazing as it looks!) I'm not a good enough writer yet to make this stuff up.
Vegan Chocolate Cake

The amazing way in which the Global Quest board is designed was inspired by a local scrapbook store in Clermont, FL called Scrapbook Eden. I want to personally thank everyone (Tameka, James, Chelsea, Erica, Jamie, Bobby, Emily, Fritz, their friends, and of course my mother for her support!) who contributed to the variety of crazy obstacles and the visual aesthetics that await you within the game (including elements of the game that literally capsize your ship!). Your feedback was paramount and greatly appreciated! :)

Treasure Hold 'Em, on the other hand, was inspired by a family I met while working for TSA at the Orlando International Airport a few years back. This particular family, like so many other passengers, had a three-hour layover and were playing a made-up game using dice they received on a Disney Cruise. This was also during the time Pirates of the Caribbean was still popular and suddenly a bell (ding!) went off in my head! It took me two days to design the basic prototype and I immediately sent it to be copyrighted. Interestingly enough, since this game was inspired by a family, the effect seems to be universal thus far, because the entire family seems to gather around and interact as a whole in this particular game whenever I test it out to get feedback.

*NOTE: Global Quest has not even been released yet and I already have teachers interested in using it as a creative learning tool for their classes, while some college students and adults think it makes a great drinking game! (Who knew???) I never thought of it that way, but at least they're enjoying it and that's all that matters to me!

6. Why are your self-producing your games? Why not license them to a major toy company?

Great question! Often times, a new game may fall into a similar category (i.e. trivia) as another game already on the market. A toy company may then buy it from you to own the rights and then never release it in order to prevent competition. This happened to someone I knew and it deeply concerns me. At least this way, I can personally test the games' potential before considering licensing them.

As an inventor, if your game has NOT been proven and your game is licensed to a major company and it is placed in stores, they may pay you only a one-time payment and/or you will be lucky if you receive (up to) 4% in royalties (or less). I don't mind working hard to produce my own games because I know that at least I will be paid according to the results I produce and I will be in complete control of my inventions. Plus, I love the idea of being able to contribute back to other artists or inventors struggling to make it and to donate to a charity that is very important and personal to me.

7. Do you offer refunds?

Unfortunately, no. Once your image and link are added to the website they are there for life. If you need your image and website removed at some point in the future, we can do that, however no refunds will be given.
